Airing of Grievances: Who's With Me?

We'd like to know that people are actually reading our blog (and we're not just doing this to indulge Tom's obsessive nature). So let's get some comments, suggestions, questions, and possibly discussions going on here people!

  1. I think I've designed my whole life around my obsessive nature; the record keeping is just one.

  2. I have a question. Knowing the expensive nature of the fancier restaurants around the city, do you guys have a formula for when to splurge and go to one? Also, how do you pick which one to go to? Would you rather keep going to a few favorite restaurants or keep trying all the 4 star joints around the city?

  3. Tom and I sort of have a formula- if it's a special occasion, then we'll splurge on a nice dinner (within limits- no Per Se for us!). But a lot of the really nice restaurants have awesome lunch deals, so lunch is a great cheaper option but still high quality food. We have a tradition of going to Jean-Georges as a 'summer kick-off' for lunch, but typically we like to try new restaurants. But I wouldn't rule out return trips to places like Blue Hill, Momofuku Ko, or Corton, because they were all incredibly good.

  4. Lunch is absolutely the way to go.

$24-28 for lunch may seem like a lot, but if you consider it's at a place like Del Posto or Eleven Madison Park it's an insane deal. The service at these places is crazy plus it's two or three courses, plus an amuse, canapes and petit fours.

It's kind of become standard for these 3-4 star places to offer this sort of lunch.

Some people eat lunch out every day and get the $10 salad from Pret or Pax or whatever generic deli. It's better to brown bag it daily and meet up with Gretchen once every couple months.
